Women's 4s 2 - 3 Old Cranleighans 1s (H)
By Jen Hopping
With our first Friday Night Lights home game there was lots of nerves and anticipation in the changing room at 7pm (the time when most of us are usually getting ready for bed!). The game had been hyped up with posts on social media to draw out a strong crowd. The nerves certainly showed as within the first two minutes OCs had a short corner which was brilliantly saved by Emily E but was converted by the oppo thereafter to take a 1 - 0 lead.
Although there were some good passages of attacking play by Surbiton, OCs had one break away which resulted in a scrappy goal to make the score 2 - 0 at half time.
Coach Bex gave a positive half time talk and we all refuelled with sugary sweets which Jen proceeded to drop all over the floor, hence the DOD votes. With renewed optimism Surbiton started the second half on the front foot and Chandler converted the first goal of the comeback.
The momentum had shifted in Surbiton’s favour and the team were linking well all over the pitch. It didn't take long for Rosina to capitalise on this, making the score 2 - 2.
However, OCs always looked dangerous and despite the defence giving its best and desperately blocking their way into the D they won a short corner. They scored from a straight strike with only ten minutes left of the game.
Still Surbiton tried not to panic and continued to attack to try and salvage some points from the game. However, it just wasn't going to be their day and the game ended 3 - 2 to OCs.
The votes for Player of the Match were spread throughout the team, but Scar was judged to be the overall winner.
