Men's 3s 1 - 3 London Edwardians 1s (A)
By Tom Philp
The steam train of Surby 3s pulled into Honor Oak station full of momentum after a huge bounce back win. Met with a 25 minute delay to pushback, the boys watched on in anguish as the choppers that are Honor Oak 1s celebrated every tackle and tiny win with disproportionate vigour, as they wallow miserably in the league below.
London Eds came out pretty average, missing a few players from seasons gone by, but still they managed to somehow anti skill their way to victory. No more obviously was this displayed than by their second goal, where the geezer mis-hit the ball in the D straight to his teammate who bundled it home.
Fresh off the plane, Philp returned to the side and made an instant contribution with all but one colour of card. Really hard done by if you ask me. A player of such high calibre, ability and temperament, the umpires took exception to the ways in which he controlled the game.
Surb started to grow into the game and the zone, creating chances and winning short corners that were ultimately wasted by Captain Fantastic, leading to cries of, “Bring back Goobs", something that's never been heard before... desperation can get to us all.
Ultimately, they scored a few average goals, we only scored one average goal. They aren't great, we'll only get better. Highlights:
• Ben played two minutes and mis-hit a goal
• Philp got two cards
• Aiden suffered two career threatening injuries
• Dodders didn't score a hit
• Feliks is not related to Gus Poyet
