Men's 1s 6 - 0 Cardiff & Met 1s (H)
The Surbiton Men’s 1s secured a place at the upcoming England Hockey Finals Weekend with a 6-0 win over Cardiff & Met on Sunday afternoon.
While the scoreboard ultimately ended in a comfortable victory for the M1, it took until midway through the second quarter for the first goal to be converted. Surbiton’s number 23 Nick Bandurak touched home a field goal in the 23rd minute.
It remained 1-0 going into the half time break, but as so often this season, Surbiton’s relentless and intense style of play broke Cardiff’s resolve later in the game. Conor Williamson flicked home a corner goal in the third quarter and this was followed up by a flurry of strikes, with a corner conversion for Bandurak in the 52nd minute and further field goals for Dave Goodfield and Will Calnan within the next five minutes, both converting with deft touches in a packed Cardiff circle.
Bandurak completed his hat trick in the final minute with a forehand strike from the right hand side of the circle, and in the process notched up an incredible 28 league goals for himself in his first Seals season, with three games to go.
Conor Williamson was named Player of the Weekend for the M1 following two more outstanding performances.
The Men’s 1s host Hampstead & Westminster next Saturday at 6pm, with a top seeding for the end of season semi finals on Saturday 2nd May up for grabs for the winner.
