Women’s 6s 3 - 3 Old Cranleighan 2s (A)

Matchday: 30th November 2024

By Ffion Church

The 6s started their day with an early away push back to top of the league and local rivals Old Cs. *Spoiler alert*- WE FINALLY SCORED FROM A PENALTY CORNER!!!!!

Despite not having a speaker to blast Taylor Swift for our warm up, we were raring to go. I had stupidly left taking my tracksuit off to the last minute which meant rushing to get my legs out and falling over in the process - DOD votes secured before the first whistle blew (I’m taking it as an achievement).

Old Cs piled on the pressure as we knew they would with a few early penalty corners. Some outrageous calls for a flick from the Old Cs players saw Sammy and I biting from the start only for Sinead to remind us to keep our heads.

It was then our turn to attack and we were rewarded with a penalty corner. The ball was sent to Iona who delivered a great ball in which was deflected by myself into the goal. 0-1.

Our defensive line were on fire with Sammy, Sinead, Bella and Tish pulling out top performances and Hutch some great saves to stop Old Cs from equalising.

We were all over them with most of the play happening within Old Cs 23. A great ball from Sammy to Becky saw Becky drive the baseline, sending one hell of a ball in for me to convert to make it 0-2.

Iona then showed some great solo play when she dribbled through countless opponents and fired a great shot at goal which saw us 0-3 up going into the break.

The second half commenced and Old Cs came out firing showing why they were top of the league (with some help from one umpire in particular. Am I allowed to say that?). We panicked slightly in the second half and saw Old Cs clawing at our lead. 2-3.

By this point, I had completely lost count of how many times I had fallen over (Christmas wish list - my own first aid kit). We had some great support on the sideline from the following match’s men’s away team - some may have paid them more attention than others.

Despite our best efforts Old Cs scored an equaliser towards the end of the match which saw the game end 3-3, a tough result to take following the half time score, but one we would’ve happily taken prior to going into the match.

POM this week was myself and despite my two goals, it did not cancel out my falls which also secured me DOD.
