Sirens 0 - 6 Barnes Blazes (A)
By Tracey House
Sirens gathered at Barnes Hockey Club having drawn our first game of the season with Epsom last week.
It was a 10.00 start so we had leave sunny Surbiton nice and early. After a few wrong turns to golf and rugby clubs... we made it to the hockey pitch.
We had already been asked to agree to A Level PE course filming, so we knew the opposition would be young, fit and quick. Not words we can always use to describe all of the Sirens!
Injuries, business trips, holidays and work commitments meant we had the great pleasure of 5 fantastic B2H recruits. We were delighted that Emma, Gemma, Joanna, Ivett and Louise were able to join us, along with another new player, Ava in goal.
Surge's warm up got everyone's bodies warmed up and then we were off. Barnes attacked quickly and with accuracy, and we were 3-0 down in the first ten minutes. We had a couple of great chances on goal but the first half finished 4-0.
We regrouped at half time, changed a few positions, ate oranges and jelly babies, and set off again. The team worked really hard and set up some scoring opportunities but a goal was elusive. Ava had some fantastic saves and the final score was a 6-0 loss.
This week's DOD or Wally of the Week Wig (WWW) was awarded to Claire T and Claire J who forgot the balls and first aid kit.
POM: Surge for being totally awesome all over the pitch
