Great Start to Season for GU14 Ospreys

Gameday: 6th October 2024

By Manfred Lam

A great start to the 24/25 season with the GU14 Ospreys deliver a resounding victory of 9-0 over Spencer at KGS Ditton Field.

By and large, the Ospreys played well to paper over any rustiness and early season blues, if any. There were some intricate passes across the pitch and between our defence and offence. The pressing was good and very much rewarded in the first ten minutes of the game.

Dunsire Moore opened the scoring with a simple tap in from a right cross, then Saksena followed with a hat-trick of goals. Saksena’s third was a gem of the match that involved resolute defence at the back, a simple link-play between midfield and the forward line: three touches – goal!

Spencer held their line in the second quarter whilst Ospreys missed a number of sitters after creating numerous chances. The first half ended with the same score as the first quarter.

As the game progressed, Osprey increasingly stretched both flanks of Spencer. Set pieces, short corners in particular, came with a variety. After some of near misses and post hittings, Henkes deservedly picked up two goals, and Dunsire Moore also rightly completed her hat-trick, the second of the game.  Four goals in the last quarter was telling of the opposition and the concentration of our girls.

A great team effort, all around contributions from the back to the front, and indeed notable individual scores.

Result (quarter by quarter): 4-0, 0-0, 1-0, 4-0. Final score: 9-0

Scorers: Saksena (3), Dunsire Moore (3), Henkes (2), Walker (1)
