Ladies 2s 1 - 0 Canterbury 1s (H)

13th February 2023

By Ellie de Heer

Surbiton 2s were feeling confident coming into this game, having got a draw against Barnes and a win against Buckingham the previous weekend.

The first quarter was fairly open, but Surbiton started to pile on the pressure in the second quarter. A couple of missed corners and a shot from Gemma Townsend going just wide meant the score was still 0-0 going into the second half.

There was a fantastic save by Amber Walton in the third quarter which kept the score level. Canterbury’s keeper made an equally impressive save of a penalty stroke awarded late into the quarter. It was all to the play for in the final quarter.

We started strong and our patience was rewarded with a penalty corner with five minutes left to play. The corner didn’t quite go to plan but quick thinking by Lilie Lamacraft put the ball across the face of goal which Hannah Birchall then tapped in.

The game finished 1-0 to Surbiton.

Congratulations to players of the match Pip Stewart and Ellie de Heer.
