BU16 Huskies 1 - 4 Bromley & Beckenham BU16 (H)
By Will Hayes
The Boys U16 Huskies took an early exit from the EH U16 Tier 2 Championships on Sunday, going down 4-1 against a skilful BromBecks side.
Quite how one of the Surbiton players managed to rock up an hour late is baffling, given that the clock-change meant that any muck up would surely mean a player would arrive an hour early. Not a great start. Fred was in the coaching role and was perturbed to see that Surbiton were slow to apply pressure across the pitch and it was the Kent side who dominated the first 20 minutes with two of their midfielders particularly skilful and composed on the ball.
Matt W showed some power and pace and managed to wrestle back some initiative, but still picks up the Village award for wearing a white Sondico bib rather than a white Mizuno home shirt. Blaney Snr showed some nice wobble and physicality.
In fairness the hosts were slightly fortunate to be just the one down at the break but could have burgled an equaliser in the second half when faced with an overload and a shot from a tightish angle was probably the Hollywood option rather than the more prosaic cut back/sweaty FIFA goal.
Hugo won the Clubman of the Day award with umpiring an U12 triangular and then putting in a good shift at left half combining well with the inside forwards. Sam B showed composure to claim a consolation goal with a composed tomahawk finish. But, it wasn't to be and the Huskies, as the old adage goes, will now be able to focus on the league.
Many thanks to Mark for umpiring and good luck to BromBecks in Round 3.
