Sparticans Beat Sunbury & Walton Hawks

9th March 2020

By Simon Fitch

Sparticans 1 – 0 Sunbury and Walton Hawks M4

Scorer: Welch
Spartican of the Day: James Warren

A return to a new proper hockey scoreline this week after recent basketballish results for the Sparticans, who came away from Sunbury with a valuable three points on Saturday.

This was a great team performance, illustrated nicely by the great spread of votes for Spartican of The Day. We could and maybe should have scored more than the one goal, but it was enough and in the second half in particular Lee had a quiet 35 minutes, with only a comic falling over episode to keep us chuckling.

Still without the Gaffer and local media star Mr Curtis, we shaded the first half and then dominated in the second. Our many short corners didn’t convert, unfortunately, and so we were vulnerable until the very end. We were very disciplined and kept our heads throughout, which has not always been the case against this team. Nice to see.

We retired to their club for proper sausage and beans and then back to ours.  Job done.
