Mongooses Sign Off With a Win

16th March 2020

By Matt Sabben-Clare

Mongooses 3 – 0 Sanderstead M2

The Mongooses signed off for the season with a sixteenth win in 18 games.

No fiesta this time after last week’s raucous Mexican street-party, but a solid, good-humoured 3-0 win over a well-organised Sanderstead 2s side was a nice way to wrap things up. Good to see Greg G back up and running on the right wing after his nasty collision with a gatepost last Saturday evening. Also a pleasure to welcome back spiritual leader Hamper, fresh from leading the Cobras to the brink of the Div 4 title in the morning.

Over the season, we scored 79 goals, conceding only 14 in reply and we ended up ten points clear of second-placed Woking, the only team who beat us (twice!). We’ve had a pretty stable core of players available most weeks, which has meant the team has improved and become a lot more efficient since we formed in September. Our superb colts have been a vital component of the team’s success. We have a great foundation to thrive and build on this season’s success next year.

I’d like to thank all at SHC for supporting the Mongooses in our first season. Particular thanks to James Hamper who has managed both Cobras and Mongooses so effectively. And to all the Mongoose players, supporters, parents, wives and friends for a highly entertaining season!
