L2 Open Up Seven Point Lead at Top of Table
By Colin Pike
Surbiton Ladies' second team opened up a seven point lead over their nearest rivals Exe when the Investec Women's Hockey League Conference West resumed on Saturday.
A 3-1 come from behind victory at home to Cheltenham enabled the league leaders to increase their advantage over Exe as the Devon club were without a fixture.
After a goalless first half, Cheltenham took the lead in the 37th minute through Katie Vickers.
Surbiton had to wait for the 52nd minute before they drew level through Hannah Denison, and then a minute later, Mary Klugman put Surbiton ahead with a penalty corner conversion.
Denison struck again with seven minutes remaining to seal Surbiton's victory.
Oxford University also joined Exe on 20 points following their 2-1 win at Oxford Hawks, who dropped from third to fourth.
Surbiton visit Exe next Saturday at 12 noon whilst Oxford University visit Clifton Robinsons' second XI.
