Surbiton’s Under-18 Girls won the Tier 1 Final at Sonning Lane, Reading on Sunday morning, beating Cambridge City 6-2 after leading 5-1 at half time.
After receiving byes from East Grinstead and Wycombe in the first two rounds, Surbiton won a shootout 4-1 to get past Southgate after a 1-1 draw in normal time; beat Canterbury 4-2 and won 6-2 at Bournemouth in the semi-finals.
Cambridge City won 9-2 at Sudbury; 2-0 at home to Beeston; 1-0 at home to Harleston Magpies and won 2-0 at Repton to reach the final.
Surbiton led 2-0 after just eleven minutes, Autumn Brown converting penalty corners in the third and eleventh minutes.
Darcy Bourne added a third penalty corner conversion on the quarter-hour followed by Stephanie Weber’s penalty stroke six minutes later.
Ten minutes before the break, Steph Beaumont put Surbiton 5-0 ahead with the first open play goal of the match, Katie Curtis pulling a goal back for Cambridge in the 27th minute in the same manner to make the half time score 5-1 to Surbiton.
The goalscoring slowed down in the second half, Weber scoring her second goal of the game in the 39th minute from open play with Madeline Anthony scoring a second goal for Cambridge City in the 47th minute.
