Surbiton U14G 0 – 0 Sevenoaks U14G - Surbiton win 7-6 on penalty strokes

(National Under 14 Championship Final)

12th May 2019

By Colin Pike

Surbiton’s Under-14 Girls retained their Junior Club Championships title but only after an epic battle with Sevenoaks both in normal time when both free scoring teams were held to a goalless draw and then a battle of penalty strokes that went to sudden death.

The scores were level at 4-4 after the first five attempts, Olivia Martin, Emma Carey, Elani Sherwood and Tamar Cooper scoring for Surbiton and Lottie Bingham, Lulu Stephens, Betrys Galloni and Imogen Moran replying for Sevenoaks.

Gemma Townsend for Surbiton and Annabel Cheveley for Sevenoaks were the unlucky players to fail to score.

Sudden death took six attempts before it was resolved with Martin, Cooper and Sherwood all scoring for Surbiton and Bingham and Stephens replying for Sevenoaks before Galloni unfortunately failed to score.

Sevenoaks and Surbiton were the two outstanding teams of the finals and after last year’s 2-1 win, Surbiton were made to fight before retaining their title.
