Sparticans Finish 2019 with a Win

9th December 2019

Sparticans 3 – 0 Barnes Beavers

Spartican of The Day: Frosty

And now, for the last time this decade, your weekly @SHCSparticans update…

Saturday was a more average affair on the pitch than last week’s Sanderstead shenanigans. We didn’t play amazingly, but there were certainly some highlights as we overcame the Beavers of Barnes to take second place in the league at Christmas. Frosty, replacing Lee ‘Yesterday’s Man’ Creaser played excellently in goal and deserved his Spartican of The Day award. We made a lot of chances, but conversion was a little lacking. Generally we kept them out of our D and were good value for our eventual victory.

Hockey fans around the world will be happy to hear that The Gaffer Richard Curtis scored from a yard, followed by two goals from Kevin, on extended loan from the UN. For the first time in a while we had more than two spectators, including the aforementioned Lee Who and also Jordan, controversially accompanied by a distraction, we wish you both well.

The game was obviously the hors d’oeuvres for our Christmas Special teas, which might be best described as preposterous – we started this decade with bring your own sandwiches, and end it in a very different place.

Similarly, umpiring at the club has seen a parallel immense improvement, and we thank Chrissie for today, and all our umpires so far this season for your work.

Finally thank you to our thousands of readers as we prepare to launch the 2020s in style – Merry Christmas!
