Men's 6s in Tough Match Against Cranleigh
By Howard Corney
SHC Men’s 6s 1 – 3 Cranleigh M1s
We always knew this was going to be a tough match against a very strong Cranleigh 1s team that had won the league last year and whose squad had played together for the last few years. And so it proved!
We had opted for youth over experience (again) and we had Fynn T debuting in goal in place of the ‘yet to be seen this season’ Tony Haycroft. Fynn was one of seven colts in our squad, each of whom equipped themselves very well.
In fact despite Cranleigh dominating possession our defence were excellent and Cranleigh had few shots on goal. Our problem was more that the defensive effort meant we were unable to muster any sustained attacking threat. We went into the break 2-0 down and pulled 1 back through another majestically struck penalty corner from Toddy. Unfortunately any hopes that this was the beginning of a comeback were snuffed out when Cranleigh quickly re-established their 2 goal lead.
We fought manfully to the end but the game ended 3-1 which was probably a fair reflection of play.
MoM (on countback) was Jack C (colt) who had an excellent game.
