Magnets Open League Campaign with a Win
Magnets v Old Cranleighans - League - W 4-1
Scorers: Wingfield, Beaney R, Green, Waller
Despite the searing heat, the Magnets got their league campaign off to a perfect start with a laboured but ultimately comfortable win against local rivals OCs.
For many this was their first outing for some months, reflected in a stuttering first half performance. Despite having the majority of possession, a tap-in from Andrew Wingfield after some good build up play by the forwards was the only difference between the two sides at half time.
Teamwork and passing improved in the second half. As the opposition tired and spaces opened up the Magnets made better use of the ball, leading to three more well-worked team goals, the pick of the bunch being Waldo's one-handed tip-in over the keeper from a pinpoint cross from Richard Beaney.
Andy Little had a good debut in goal for the Magnets and, in the absence of regulars, we were pleased to welcome Rob Lane and Andrew Wingfield into the squad.
Particular thanks to Steven Iffland and Fitchy for taking on last-minute umpiring duties - very much appreciated when there was the distraction of the M1s match on the next pitch.
