Magnets Defeated in Ten-Goal Game
By Mark Waller
Magnets 3 - 7 Epsom
Scorer/Player of the Match: Rob Stone (3)
This was always going to be a tough fixture against one of the stronger sides at this level who had put 15 goals past a hapless Tring the previous week. Our younger, fitter and more experienced opposition quickly found their stride, using the full width of the pitch and playing a crisp passing game. They were too often quicker to the ball and by half time the Magnets were 4 down, not helped by our own ineptitude and sloppy play.
Instead of capitulating, we started to focus more on our own game and managed to put some good passing moves together and to threaten the Epsom goal. In a ding-dong second half in which honours were shared (3-3), Rob Stone scored a hat trick of trademark well-struck short corners, just reward for his MOM performance. It was a tough match, but we can take some credit and heart for sticking at it and not making it too easy for Epsom to run away with it.
A break next weekend, then it’s our turn to take on bottom placed Tring at home.
