Jokers in Brilliant Win Over Hampstead

13th November 2019

By Luke Michael

Jokers 3 – 1 Hampstead & Westminster Men’s Vets

The Jokers travelled to Paddington Rec to play Hampstead and Westminster in driving rain in the graveyard shift. An unappealing trip, a few years of bad results and a couple of failed late fitness tests did not brighten the mood which was summed up by Bloxy's enquiry as to whether life would be easier just giving them the points.

His despair proved to be a psychological masterstroke as it galvanised the team into producing a superb performance. We denied our opponents time and space, harrying them into mistakes. With the ball, we attacked fast and found ourselves 2-0 up by half time.

Unused to such treatment at home, Hampstead lost their discipline, stopped trying to play hockey and concentrated on theatrics. Surbiton responded with a third goal before Hampstead were able to snatch a consolation at the death.

This was a brilliant performance from the whole team and a very satisfying victory.

Goalscorers: Richard Skinner, Andrew Wingfield, Trevor Mallinson.

Players of the Match: Matt Bloxham and Jim Hey
