Doidge Stars as M2s Win

9th October 2019

By Dave Bartram

Men's 2s 4 - 1 Tulse Hill & Dulwich M1s

Player of the Match – Liam Doidge

DOD – Dave Bartram

On Saturday the M2's played their first competitive home match on the sand versus Tulse Hill and Dulwich Men's 1st XI. Having lost the previous week, 1-0 to Staines, a real effort was made for people to attend training which saw Rhys Linnell train for the first time in over a year. The whistle went and within three minutes TH&D scored a counter attack, one shot one goal. However Surbiton managed to find their feet and replied with a cool finish from Tom Smith. For the next twenty minutes, Surbiton had most of the possession but couldn't convert their chances until 'Big Man' Liam Doidge stepped up and drag flicked one into the bottom corner. A couple of minutes later, the ex 'England Young Player of the Year' (following the footsteps of Ashley Jackson and Darren Cheeseman) drag flicked another corner in to send Surbiton in at half time 3-1 up.

In the second half Beaumont was pulling the strings from the back, Scotty and Rhys were dominating in the midfield whilst Redders and Billy 'I love Infernos' Winter were continuing their attacking play from the first half. Unfortunately we lost Birdie and Wittsy to injury but we still had plenty of legs and class on the bench to win short corners. This was when Doidgey completed his hat-trick and celebrated like his Irish National dancing days as he knew he’d avoided a jug of beer for the boys. Unfortunately with all the chances created we couldn’t score any more goals. Instead Adam 'Army' White felt sorry for the boys in red that he deflected, what was bound to be a fourth for Doidgey, over the bar. Redders had a couple of chances glancing either sides of the goal but DOD went to Bean for an incredibly unlucky yellow card.

To summarise, the boys played well, got three points, Scotty worked so hard during the game that he decided to take a nap at local sponsors Wags and Tales. Good luck next week at home to Bournemouth M1.
