Boys U14 Stoats Just Lose Out

Surbiton Boys U14 Stoats 1 – 3 Reigate Priory Polecats U14 Boys B
We made a really good start to the game with lots of possession and when Reigate did get the ball they were quickly closed down and tackled. There was some especially great defending by Tom C with several very good tackles. We created lots of good chances in the first quarter but couldn’t quite get shots in the goal. So it was nil nil.
In the second quarter the Stoats continued to build on a strong defence and really controlled the midfield. Sam G and Jude F created lots of possession. Reigate were very strong on the counter but some good scramble defence from Tom, Sammie H, Tom C and Barney H meant they couldn’t get any shots on target.
Our possession and pressure eventually told and after repeated chances we went 1 nil up with Dan B putting a rebound away. We continued to have more territory and possession in the second half. Jude moved to defence and gave an extra attacking option from deep, which put even more pressure on the opposition. Barney made some important tackles and Sammie was really strong being in the right place to stop Reigate’s counter attacks. Despite some excellent defence giving Toby T and Teddy C a great platform to use their silky skills we just couldn’t score. James A was particularly strong up front. But two super quick attacks from Reigate with first class finishes left us 3 - 1 with only a few minutes left. Constant pressure and possession for these last minutes just couldn’t deliver any more goals. So even though we had much more territory and possession we just couldn’t make it count.
It was a super effort, when we moved the ball about we really created chances and we’ll only get better. Well done Stoats - let’s keep our heads high and come back even stronger!
