M1 Get Ten Out Of Ten After 4-0 Win Over Reading

23rd November 2019

By Colin Pike

Surbiton Men won their tenth Men's Hockey League Premier Division match of the season, beating Reading 4-0 after a lightning start.

Surbiton had won the first match at Sonning Lane 10-1 on the opening day of the season and when Reading trailed 3-0 after just six minutes, there were thoughts that a repeat performance might be on the programme.

But Reading settled down defensively and held out until the penultimate minute.

Zach Wallace put Surbiton ahead in the fourth minute thanks to a pass from Alan Forsyth and before the minute was over, Forsyth also breached the Reading defence to double Surbiton's lead.

Wallace scored again in the sixth minute, Sam Spencer this time setting the scoring attempt.

In the second half, former Reading player Ben Boon was unlucky with a shot hitting the post when diving towards goal and Forsyth was also frustrated with shots going wide of the goal.

Rob Farrington also had a late chance to score which went wide of the post whilst Chris Wyver made some important saves.

But there was nothing Wyver could do when David Goodfield scored from close range in the 69th minute to complete a 4-0 win, Harry Gibson keeping a clean sheet.

Surbiton currently lead Wimbledon by nine points with both teams having played ten games, but with round of four matches being played on Sunday, both Wimbledon and Old Georgians could have closed the gap back to six and seven points.
