Three SHC Players in GB Men’s 2023 EDP Squad

12th January 2023

By Surbiton HC

Congratulations to Surbiton’s Caspar Beyer, Mattie Hughson and Tim Nurse, who have all been named in the preliminary squad for the GB Elite Development Programme for this year.

The GB EDP programme is designed to help players progress to senior international hockey and a number of current GB internationals and Tokyo Olympians have already stepped up from the EDP squad to the full senior side in recent years.

Mattie and Caspar have been selected at EDP level for the first time. The lads are two of the most exciting young prospects at SHC, with both regularly demonstrating their talents for the Men’s 2s over the last couple of seasons and earning more and more opportunities in the first team during the 2022/23 season so far.

Tim Nurse is one of three sets of brothers in this year’s EDP programme, joined in the 2023 squad by younger brother Nick of Exeter University. As an experienced EDP player who has already played a number of senior England games, Tim is regularly involved in the full senior squad and will hope to gain further caps in the year ahead.

Meanwhile Scotland’s Jamie Golden (currently playing for Nottingham University but who has returned to Surbiton for this season’s indoor campaign) is named in the EDP group once again, while former SHC junior players Conor Williamson, Jamie Taylor and Will Petter are also included in the squad.

Good luck to the squad, and in particular our young Surbiton stars, in the year ahead as they make the next steps towards senior international hockey.
