Surbiton Players Star as GB Qualify for Tokyo

3rd November 2019

It was a successful weekend for the GB Men and Women as both teams won their two-legged Olympic Qualifiers at Lee Valley.

The GB women came away with 5-1 aggregate scoreline over Chile, following up Saturday's 3-0 win with a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Sarah Evans was unfortunate to be ruled out with a late injury but a number of other current and former Surbiton L1s starred across the course of the weekend. Former SHC Colt Izzy Petter opened the scoring for GB on Saturday afternoon, with Hannah Martin adding a further goal and Wimbledon's Anna Toman completing the win. Sunday's scoreline was a little tighter, but the result was ultimately comfortable and GB will be delighted to secure their chance to defend their Olympic title in Tokyo.

The GB Men conceded an early goal in Q1 on Saturday's opener, but recovered to win 4-1 with Surbiton's Alan Forsyth and James Gall notching goals alongside Sam Ward (OGs) and Phil Roper (Wimbledon).

This was followed up by a fantastic 5-2 win on Sunday and it was M1 star Alan Forsyth who stole the show. He notched up his 100th international goal with his ninth minute stroke and after Ward's two scores had put GB firmly in the driving seat, Forsyth sealed his hat trick with strikes in the 56th and 57th minutes.

Congratulations to both GB teams on their results this weekend, with a special mention to the Surbiton players in each squad. A hugely exciting year lies ahead!
