Club Tribute: Mike Harvey (1951 - 2026)
By Surbiton HC
Following the sad news of the passing of Mike Harvey, a former Surbiton HC player, trustee, committee member and a long time supporter of the club, please see below further memories of Mike’s involvement at Surbiton.
Details of the funeral and a celebration of Mike’s life to be held at the club are below - please do confirm via email to harvejames@gmail.com if you plan to attend.
Having been recruited by Mark Rye, whose best man he had been, Mike played for the Dragons for a number of seasons. The side, which included several father and son pairings, was set up to give boys an introduction to men's hockey. Most boys went on to play higher up at the club, and several, including Mike's son James, made it to the First XI. Mike decided to hang up his boots and stick to golf after he broke his hand twice despite wearing sausage-style gloves the second time.
Mike and Lucia were regular supporters of the Dragons Munching Club, a monthly dining club set up after Rob Dunn's tenure as Captain of the Dragons.
