18th October 2024

By Colin Pike

Surbiton Men have a busy weekend in store as they face a doubleheader with a game at Holcombe on Saturday night before a home match with Beeston on Saturday afternoon.

Surbiton travel to Kent for their first Men's Hockey League match of the weekend, when they play Holcombe on Saturday night at 1830.

The game will be played at Holcombe HC, Curtis Way, Chatham, Rochester ME1 2TQ.

Supporters unable to go to Holcombe can watch the match via the Holcombe Hockey Club You Tube channel here

The match will also see Surbiton Coach, Barry Middleton return to his former club.

Surbiton are second with Holcombe third, both teams on nine points although Surbiton have a game in hand due to their Euro Hockey League participation.

Surbiton go into the match having won all three league games so far, whilst Holcombe saw their one hundred per cent record ended at Old Georgians last Saturday, when they lost 5-2.

Holcombe had beaten Wimbledon 5-3 at home before winning 4-1 at Cardiff & Met and 3-2 at Hampstead & Westminster.

Teague Marcano and Mubashar Ali have each scored three goals this season, with Tom Russell and Matt Ramshaw scoring twice. Holcombe's other four goals have been shared by Ali Shan, Rohan Bhuhi, Rob Field and Tim Neild.

Last season both meetings were won by the away team with Holcombe winning 3-2 at Sugden Road in September, but Surbiton winning 1-0 at Holcombe Park in February.

Surbiton will be playing their third successive league match on the road after an 8-0 win at Richmond and a 6-1 victory at Cardiff & Met last Saturday. This is because Surbiton's scheduled league match at home to Wimbledon was postponed until 7 November due to both teams competing in the Euro Hockey League at Sugden Road.

Struan Walker is Surbiton's top scorer with six goals, with Luke Taylor on four. Ben Park and Conor Williamson have both scored twice, with Stuart Rushmere, Jake Payton, Rob Farrington and Jake Smith also on target.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Beeston, Surbiton's opponents on Sunday, start their tour of Elmbridge when they visit Old Georgians.

Hampstead & Westminster have a London derby at Southgate; Oxted are at home to Cardiff & Met; Wimbledon host East Grinstead and Richmond welcome Bowdon to the Quintin Hogg Memorial Ground in an early bottom of the table clash with both teams hoping to earn their first points of the season.
