M1 Sign NZ International Jake Smith
By Surbiton HC
We are pleased to announce the arrival of New Zealand striker Jake Smith to join the Men’s 1s squad.
Double Olympian Jake has previously played for Auckland-based clubs Somerville and Auckland Indians, as well as notching up European league experience at Herakles in Belgium and Dutch Hoofdklasse club Pinoke. He has amassed over 120 international caps and heads to Surbiton on the back of a busy summer with New Zealand having helped the side qualify back to Pro League before competing at Paris 2024.
M1 Coach Barry Middleton is pleased to have confirmed Jake’s arrival: “I’m delighted to have signed Jake having previously worked with him in New Zealand. He will give us an experienced head in the front line and adds a further goal threat for us, but he’s also a great character and will be a good example for our younger guys aspiring to play at the highest level to learn from.”
Jake says, “I can’t wait to get started with the Surbiton lads. The team looks really strong this year with some exciting opportunities ahead. I’m looking forward to contributing to the club’s success this season and hopefully in years to come.”
Welcome to Surbiton, Jake!
