Back 2 Hockey Returns for the New Season
By Roger Hitch
The latest from the B2H crew as a new season of action begins...
At the first B2H Monday training session of the 2024/25 season, we broke our previous attendance record of 41 and had 46 members and trialists attending.
We have two new young coaches of Nick Nurse and Max Anderson (both international players) who created interesting and challenging skills routines for our Advanced and Middle groups. Our new-to-hockey players group was taken by one of our junior coaches and had 11 attending, which again was a sub-group record.
Back-to-Hockey continues to go from strength to strength and we are introducing 11-aside training and matches with Tulse Hill & Dulwich HC being our first 11s friendly opposition where we will play their Men’s 8s.
B2H is now also attracting a higher skilled level of player and we have a previous South African Divisional player joining soon, alongside three of his compatriots all who have played at a good club level in SA.
We have had an interest to join from thirty players since the end of July including 11 parents from the Junior Play Day. We are repeating our monthly four team mixed tournaments and are introducing two more clubs, on a rotational basis, to provide us with alternate opposition. These monthly tournaments are part of our preparation program for the SHC Summer League competitions. We are pleased to state that four of our B2H players from last season have been promoted, through our ‘Pathway Scheme’, to the club’s league sides for this season.
