GU14 Wrens & GU16 Pioneers Take National Titles

24th April 2023

By Surbiton HC

Our Girls U14 and Girls U16 sides had a great weekend, both bringing home Tier 1 National titles from Nottingham Hockey Centre.

Our Girls Under 16 Pioneers had four matches across their two day T1 Supra League Finals event. The girls started in fine fashion in the group phase on Saturday, taking a 6-1 win against Midlands side Sutton Coldfield with goals from Noa, captain Josie, Jess and Emilia (2). A tighter game against Marlow followed, with goals from Izzy and Shakila proving the difference in a 2-1 victory.

The last group game against Alderley Edge on Sunday morning was a 2-0 win for SHC, with Noa and Nat scoring the goals. This meant a final against City of York - in a well contested match Surbiton came out on top with Noa, Josie and Emilia scoring the goals in a 3-0 win. Congratulations girls!

Following their successful U14 EHL competition at Easter, our Girls U14 Wrens were also in Nottingham playing their T1 Cup Final against hosts Beeston. The match was a goal-fest, with the Bees going 1-0 up in the fourth minute, but Surbiton ultimately taking control to win 8-2 with a hat trick for Amelie and further goals for Isla, Scout, captain Monica (2) and Kitty. Well done to the whole team on a great performance.

Congratulations to both squads and their coaching teams on their achievements in Nottingham and across this season!
