Double Olympic Medalist Giselle Ansley Returns to L1

23rd June 2022

By Surbiton HC

We are delighted to announce that England & Great Britain defender Giselle Ansley will return to Surbiton HC this summer after a season playing club hockey in the Netherlands.

Giselle played for SHC between 2013-2021, winning seven national titles to add to a growing list of international honours. She headed to Hague-based club HGC after bringing a bronze medal back from her second Olympics in Tokyo, and has gained a valuable year of experience in the Hoofdklasse, playing with and against many of the world’s top internationals.

Giselle’s long range passing game, defensive steel and penalty corner skills at both ends of the pitch will add further strength to a formidable backline as the Ladies 1s look to retain their domestic title next season and achieve a long-awaited medal in Europe’s top club competition.

Giselle is looking forward to returning to Sugden Road: “I’m really excited to be joining the Surbiton girls again after an amazing year in Holland. I loved the Dutch club hockey experience, the commitment the girls have to it, how the club welcomed me and the challenge of top quality hockey each week, but now I'm excited to come back and see what we can do in the EHL next year - and of course try to put our stamp on the Premier League once again.”

L1 Coach Brett Garrard is also pleased to welcome Giselle back to his side: “Her quality and mindset will add so much to the squad both on and off the pitch. I’m also looking forward to using Giselle’s knowledge and experience to help develop the younger players in the group, who are going to be so important to us during the course of the season. Giselle is a top player and I am pleased to have a chance to work with her again and help her on the next stage of her hockey journey.”

From all at SHC, welcome home Giselle!
