SHC Summer League 2021 Kicks Off Tonight!
By Nina Daly
Excitement levels are high as the SHC Summer League is all set to start on Tuesday 18th May. Nina Daly tells us more...
This is the first time we've run a full summer league programme at SHC. Having run one ladies league for the first time in the summer of 2019 (obviously we couldn't do anything last year!) it has now evolved somewhat into 6 leagues: 3 Men's & 3 Ladies and thus has opened up the opportunity to ALL members of the club once you include the Masters Summer League too.
Matches will be 7 aside (6 outfield players plus a keeper) and will be 20 minutes each way. Pushback times are either 7.40pm or 8.40pm. There are 3 playing zones on each pitch, with zones 1-3 on Pitch 1 and zones 4-6 on Pitch 2.
We would love to hear from anyone who is willing to help out with some umpiring. As well as being a great chance to give back to the club, this is a good opportunity to practise your umpiring before doing a Level 1 assessment or getting involved in our umpiring team for league matches next season.
The social side of the summer leagues is going to be brilliant. Each team gets one jug of beer or cider included per match and sticking around after matches to socialise is encouraged! The new pizza oven should be up and running soon, so do stay at the club for a drink and a bite to eat after your game – it’s best to contact the Clubhouse team and pre-order your drinks on email@example.com
While the latest rules updates allow us to do a bit more, please do continue to follow current COVID guidelines and social distancing rules. It’s a cashless bar (card only) and you must wear a facemask in the clubhouse when not sitting at a table or accessing the toilets.
The fixtures for each league are available on the following links. League tables will also be updated on Fixtures Live each week.
The SHC Summer League should be really good fun and I hope everyone really enjoys the next few weeks of hockey!
