M1 Visit University of Durham On Sunday

10th October 2021

By Colin Pike

Surbiton Men, having just returned from Belgium, make another long trip to the University of Durham for a 2 pm push back at Maiden Castle.

Surbiton were frustrated after losing out on a shootout to hosts KHC Dragons in Brasschaat last weekend in the Euro Hockey League but will want to get back on track in the Men's Hockey League Premier Division.

Last season, Surbiton won 6-1 at Maiden Castle, Luke Taylor and Ben Boon both scoring twice with Arjan Drayton-Chana and Tom Sorsby also on target. Max Boormann scored Durham's consolation in the University's first season in the top flight.

The University of Durham won their first home game of the season, 2-1 against Brooklands Manchester University to record their first ever victory in the top flight, but lost 3-0 at Holcombe and lost 3-2 at home to Oxted after leading 2-0.

Raunaq Rai has scored twice for Durham with Jakob Schmidt and Jack Stubbings also scoring.

Meanwhile Surbiton will be aiming to continue their goalscoring form having beaten Holcombe 6-4 at home and Oxted 5-2 away before they ventured to Belgium.

Luke Taylor with four and Gareth Furlong with two goals are Surbiton's penalty corner threat with Rob Farrington also having scored twice from open play with James Gall, Nick Park and David Goodfield also chipping in.

Elsewhere, leaders Old Georgians are at home to East Grinstead, who like the University of Durham, lost a lead last week, drawing 3-3 with Brooklands Manchester University after leading 3-0.

Hampstead & Westminster welcome the University of Exeter to London and fourth placed Wimbledon make the relatively shorter trip to fifth placed Oxted.

Beeston, looking for their first points of the season, return from a week off to travel to Brooklands Manchester University.
