L1 Visit The University of Birmingham On Saturday
By Colin Pike
Surbiton Ladies travel to the West Midlands on Saturday to face the University of Birmingham (push back 2.30pm).
Over the years, Surbiton have had a good record at the University of Birmingham and come back following some convincing victories, such as their 6-0 win in February 2017.
Surbiton lost to the University for the first time in the Premier Division in October 2017 when current Surbiton player Alice Wills and former Surbiton player Erica Sanders contributed to a 3-1 win.
When Surbiton returned to the second city in March 2019, they lost again, this time Jo Turnbull earning a 1-0 win. Since then, Surbiton have won twice, 3-1 in October 2019 and 3-0 in October 2020, so on Saturday they will be going for a hat-trick of wins.
Surbiton have scored two goals in each of their three games this season, drawing 2-2 at Clifton Robinsons and at home to Buckingham last week, either side of a 2-0 home win over Beeston.
Birmingham also started with a 2-2 draw away to Holcombe after having a bye in week 1. Swansea were beaten 4-2 in the West Midlands and leaders Hampstead & Westminster had to battle to a narrow 1-0 home win last Saturday to maintain their one hundred per cent record.
Becky Manton is the only Birmingham player to have scored twice this season with Millie Atwell, Carter Ayars, Millie Giglio and Lily Walker having scored once each.
Elsewhere, leaders Hampstead & Westminster go to Buckingham; Wimbledon are at home to Beeston; Clifton Robinsons visit Swansea and Holcombe travel to Loughborough Students on Saturday.
