Free Hockey Coaching for Kingston & Elmbridge schools

24th February 2021

By SHC Community Projects

While we count down the days until we can get back out on the pitch for club hockey, the SHC Community Projects team is working hard to ensure local school children can have access to sport as soon as possible.

With the support of Surbiton HC, SHC Community Projects will be offering school hockey coaching for PE lessons / extra curricular clubs completely free of charge between the school restart date on 8th March and the start of the Easter holidays.

The rationale for this is simple: we know that the delayed restart to grassroots sport outside educational settings is going to disadvantage some young people and particularly those in the state sector. Surbiton HC wants to play an active role in helping to bridge this gap in our local area and we hope this gesture will go some way towards supporting ongoing school sports programmes as we gradually get back to normal.

“Pupils will be so glad to get back to playing sport - I mentioned it in our live lessons yesterday and their faces lit up!”
Long Ditton St Mary’s

We can offer:

  • Extra-curricular hockey clubs at schools – this is a great way to provide children with extra opportunities to access sport before grassroots activity is allowed to recommence
  • Hockey coaching in other PE lesson time (or on the hockey pitches at Surbiton HC where possible)

Availability:
We have coaches available on all weekdays before, during and after school

We promise:

  • Inspiring (covid-safe) sessions from excellent coaches
  • Minimal admin for you - our updated Risk Assessment is available now and all our coaches have up-to-date DBS certificates
