Colin Pike: 15 Years at SHC
By Surbiton HC
Saturday 9th October marks 15 years since Colin Pike first covered a Ladies 1s match for Surbiton HC.
Colin has shown incredible commitment to the club since watching his first Ladies 1s game in 2006, travelling far and wide to witness their rise from South Division Two to becoming multiple National Champions after their maiden Playoff victory in 2014. Along the way he has written hundreds of match reports, accompanied the team to European competitions in his capacity as Press Officer, and compiled an unparalleled amount of statistics on club hockey.
Ladies 1s captain Sarah Evans says, “I remember the first time Colin came to watch Surbiton Ladies 1s – mainly because it was only my mum and one other person who would show up to watch us back then! He said he wanted to promote women's sport, and grow the supporter base of the women's game… and look at us now. During his time Colin has written our match reports, been in charge of the newsletter and is now our press officer! The Ladies 1s would like to say a big thank you to Colin for all he has done for the club over the last 15 years and for being one of our most loyal supporters. Here's to many more years Colin!”
Saturday’s match against Buckingham will be Colin’s 331st with the Surbiton Ladies 1s. This includes 272 consecutive league and playoff games, 39 EH Cup ties, 4 EH Trophy matches and 15 European games.
In addition to his work covering Ladies 1s hockey, Colin also continues to play a crucial role in ensuring Surbiton HC and wider club hockey is well represented and supported. His work makes a huge difference to promoting awareness and knowledge around the domestic game in this country.
Many thanks to Colin for the incredible commitment and dedication he has shown to Surbiton HC over the last 15 years.
