Clubhouse Corner: 18th May 2021

19th May 2021

By Ann Bedford

The latest from Ann and the clubhouse team...

What a great day it was last Saturday! I hope everyone enjoyed the efforts to fit you all safely in the marquee on what proved to be a particularly rainy one. Thanks to Barney for hooking up the TV in the marquee in order to show the FA Cup Final.

We are looking forward to the start of the Summer Hockey and balmy evenings in the sunshine, but for now you can spend chilly evenings in the marquee or in the clubhouse. Yes, the clubhouse is back in operation as more than just Will’s office(!). It’s actually been a bit emotional turning the place back its former glory and I am looking forward to it being safely busy again. You will have all seen and paid attention the rule changes I’m sure but to clarify:

  • You can meet in groups of up to 30 outside / in marquee.
  • Inside bar & function room in groups of 6 or 2 households. The function room has been transformed into additional bar seating.
  • Wear masks inside unless you are sat at your table
  • Table service still applies so please don’t be tempted to venture to the bar

There will obviously be new logistical issues for us serving inside and out, so please bear with the staff.

For those taking part in the Summer Hockey Leagues please remember that your drinks will be served much quicker if you pre-order. The bar is going to be extremely busy on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday evenings so let me know if you would like to reserve an inside table: clubhouse@surbitonhc.com

This week’s menu (for Sirens & L2 games only): Scampi, fries, mushy peas, green salad, and sauce gribiche

The pizza oven has been delivered and thanks to the powerhouses that are Tom and Zach it is in place in the tea hut. The L1 and M3 games will be the first lucky ones to taste our pizza offerings, then we’ll open on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for the duration of the Summer League. Saturday evenings will be added to the mix on busy days and this will mean no more deliveries please.

Exciting times but please continue to stay safe!
