Club Statement: 5th January 2021
On Behalf of the SHC Board
Well… not the start to 2021 we had all hoped for!
Unfortunately the lockdown announced yesterday does mean that Surbiton HC will once again be forced to close until further notice with immediate effect.
We are really sad about this news. Despite the wider situation we have managed to enjoy some good hockey and marvellous socially-distanced marquee teas over the last few months, and it has been great to see players out on the pitch and a number of new faces in our senior teams and Back 2 Hockey programme this season.
As many of you will be aware, the various leagues that SHC teams are involved in had already been working through alternative competition formats in the hope competitive action can get underway again towards the end of the regular season. England Hockey’s upcoming restructure will also be a factor in these decisions as well as the ongoing situation with public health guidance. We will update our teams via the usual channels as and when we know more.
As always, please do everything you can to look after yourselves and each other during what will no doubt be a challenging time over lockdown. Check in with your team mates on whatsapp, join the SHC Strava training group and let us know what you’re up to.
We will continue to engage with you online and Beckie is aiming to produce a newsletter every other week during this window - look out in particular for some of our favourite match reports from the last few seasons and some great SHC memories ‘from the archives'.
Whatever the next few weeks hold, we want to reassure you that we are already planning LOTS of fantastic hockey and social activity at the club once we are out of lockdown and more progress has been made with the vaccine roll out… we’re thinking hockey in balmy summer weather, beer on tap, BBQs, gin tastings… it’s definitely going to be something to look forward to.
Take care of yourselves and each other.
Sian Craze on behalf of the SHC Board
