M1 Start Their Super 6s Campaign This Weekend

3rd January 2020

By Colin Pike

Surbiton Men start their Super 6s campaign at Repton School this weekend as they aim to go one better than last season and lift the trophy for a second time.

Surbiton beat East Grinstead 12-5 at Wembley Arena in 2017 and after going out at the semi-final stage in 2018 with a 3-1 defeat to East Grinstead, last season the West Sussex club only prevailed after a 3-1 win in a shootout after a 3-3 draw in normal time at the Copper Box.

Last season, Hampstead & Westminster finished top of the Premier Division table at the end of the qualifying stage with Surbiton in second place, but fourth placed East Grinstead shocked Hampstead in the semi-final before going on to win the title yet again.

Hampstead are Surbiton's first opponents at 11.30 on Saturday with Surbiton facing another London derby at 16.30 when Wimbledon provide the opposition.

On Sunday, Surbiton face Reading at 11.00 and East Grinstead at 16.00 as the table starts to take shape at the halfway stage.

The second weekend sees Surbiton v Kent as Sevenoaks, Holcombe and Canterbury stand between Surbiton and qualification, with Bowdon becoming Surbiton's last opponents in the Premier Division.
