Junior Coach Course & Awards 2019/20
By Surbiton HC
The younger players in our Colts system are supported by a large group of fantastic SHC junior coaches, who have come a long way over the last few months.
This season's junior coaches attended a day of coach education at SHC earlier in the season, helping them learn skills such as technical coaching and the importance of planning effective training exercises and games. They also had a chance to put their learning into practice and devise their own sessions for junior players.
The coaches also learnt more about the club's framework for junior coaching and how we aim to create a positive and effective environment for our Colts players of all ages and abilities - which most of them have already experienced themselves as young players within the Colts programme.
The young coaches attended an assessment later in the season - congratulations to the following who were all successful in passing the course:
Max Anderson, Fin Cooper, Tom Fox, Jake Thompson, Billy Bishop, Ross Benfors, Seb Ahmed, Alessio Di Bon, Ben Mangat, Evie Flynn, Ruby Jacques, Lexie Clark, Ellie Hatch, Saffie Wood, Freya Staddle, Colette Staadecker, Xannie Ginn, Niamh Wilson and Peggy Winterborn
We offer development opportunities for our junior coaches every season and always have a good response from players who have played hockey at a range of levels throughout our Colts section and who are keen to give back and develop their coaching skills.
Keep any eye out for further details of development opportunities for young coaches early next season... and remember that being an effective coach is not about how good you are at hockey - the most important factors are personality, confidence and your ability to connect with the players you are coaching!
