England Hockey Forced to Call off Junior Events

2nd June 2020

By Surbiton HC

England Hockey has announced that a number of flagship junior events due to take place this summer have been called off as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The 2020 Futures Cup, due to take place in August, was cancelled yesterday. This annual competition for U15 and U17 players forms a key part of selection into elite junior pathway and NAGS hockey. England Hockey is planning to ensure adapted selection processes will be in place for junior international hockey in 2021.

The Girls and Boys Under 18 Tier 1 Championships (which were postponed in March) have also now been called off. A decision has been taken that the schools who had qualified for the finals will share the titles – congratulations to the Boys 1X1 from our partner school Reed’s who will share this year’s BU18 Schools T1 title with Dean Close after an unbeaten season.

A number of our fantastic SHC Colts would have been involved in these competitions but we look forward to seeing these players back in action as we move gradually closer to a full return to hockey over the coming months.
