By Colin Pike

The 2019 Futures Cup at Oaklands College in St Albans saw several Surbiton players taking part from 21-24 August.

In the Under-15 Boys competition, Caspar Beyer and Will Petter both played for Wessex Leopards who narrowly missed out on the title, losing 3-2 to Caledonian Cougars in the final.

Wessex finished top of Pool B with a 4-0 win over Mercia Lynx and a 3-2 victory against Pennine Pumas.

Mercia Lynx were unlucky to lose both their pool games, going down 2-0 to Pennine Pumas, but finished fifth with a 4-1 win over Celtic Jaguars, Surbiton’s Dylan Parry and Will Owens both scoring. Tom Fox and James Cake were also in the squad.

In the Under-15 Girls competition, Millie Cant captained Wessex Leopards to third place. Cant scored in the 2-2 draw in the third place playoff against Pennine Pumas before prevailing 2-1 in the shootout.

Wessex had beaten Mercia Lynx 3-0 but lost 3-2 to Caledonian Cougars to finish second in their pool.

Zoe Lawrence, Lily Johnson, Elani Sherwood and Leah Wiles were all in the Mercia Lynx squad, but in spite of their endeavours, they finished sixth after losing the fifth place playoff 2-1 to Celtic Jaguars, Sherwood scoring the Lynx goal.

Lynx had lost 3-0 to Wessex Leopards and 3-1 to the Caledonian Cougars.
