M1 Are At Home To East Grinstead On Saturday Night

18th October 2019

By Colin Pike

Surbiton Men play only their second home game of the season on Saturday when East Grinstead are the visitors (push back 6 pm).

Surbiton's forwards have been prolific away from home this season, scoring ten goals at Reading; twelve at Brooklands Manchester University and eight last week at the University of Exeter where Josh Redstone scored twice on his debut.

Surbiton beat Beeston 4-2 in their first home game of the season and will be hoping to keep their winning run going against East Grinstead.

East Grinstead lost 5-3 at Holcombe in their first match and after a scare came from 3-1 down at half time to win by the same scoreline at home to Brooklands Manchester University.

A trip to Beeston saw them lose 2-1 before newly promoted Old Georgians went to West Sussex and win 5-0. Last Saturday a 2-1 home win over Reading gave East Grinstead heart.

Chris Griffiths and Simon Faulkner have both scored three goals with former Surbiton player Liam Ansell not far behind on two goals. Matthew Blood, Ben Mackey and Joe Naughalty have all scored once.

Surbiton are a point behind Old Georgians with a game in hand and can go back to the top on Saturday evening. The remaining four games are all on Sunday when Old Georgians are at home to Holcombe.

Hampstead & Westminster, who also have a game in hand after competing in the Euro Hockey League, visit Reading. Wimbledon host Beeston whilst the University of Exeter having lost 12-0 at Wimbledon and 8-2 at home to Surbiton in their last two games, will face a must win home match against Brooklands Manchester University.
