L1 Visit Clifton Robinsons On Saturday

4th October 2019

By Colin Pike

Surbiton Ladies travel to Bristol to play Clifton Robinsons in the Investec Women's Hockey League Premier Division on Saturday (push back 1 pm).

Surbiton are second behind leaders Hampstead & Westminster on goal difference with both teams having won their first three matches.

Clifton almost pulled off a win at Paddington Recreation Ground last weekend, but trailing 2-1, Hampstead scored twice in the last five minutes to win 3-2.

Clifton have won one of their three matches, 2-1 at home to Holcombe but lost 4-2 at Buckingham on the opening day of the season.

Surbiton will need to watch out for Phoebe Richards, Clifton's signing from Buckingham, as Richards has scored in each of Clifton's league matches and is their top scorer with three goals. Izzy Webb scored at Buckingham; Alexandra Ogilby scored at Holcombe and Catherine Macaulay opened the scoring at Hampstead last weekend.

Meanwhile, Surbiton will be looking to maintain their one hundred per cent record having won 4-1 at Coombe Dingle last season.

Giselle Ansley scored twice with Olivia Chilton, now with Wimbledon and former Clifton player Georgie Twigg also scoring for Surbiton. Clifton's reply came from Claire Thomas who finished the campaign with 18 goals.

The first meeting at Sugden Road was decided by Izzy Petter's 11th minute goal.

Hampstead travel to Bowdon Hightown; East Grinstead, still looking for their first points are at home to Buckingham; Loughborough Students visit Holcombe and the University of Birmingham host Beeston.
