Women’s 2s 1 - 2 Bristol Firebrands 1s (A)
By Maddie Good
After a long morning of travels, Surbiton marched into the weekend’s clash with Bristol Firebrands, raring to go.
Despite Surbiton putting on a strong performance in the first half, Bristol produced a well-drilled counter attack leading to a goal in the first quarter. This was shortly followed by a somewhat questionable PC goal for Bristol leaving us 2-0 down at half time.
After a half time chat, the girls continued to persevere and put on a dominating second half performance, with Tilly Gibson giving the Surbiton supporters some hope in the last quarter, scoring a well-earned deflection goal straight into the bottom corner.
Despite efforts, and a POM goalkeeping display from Issy Melbourne, we were unable to claw back from 2-1 down and the game was Bristol’s for the taking. Although not reflected in the scoreline, the girls displayed a very promising performance of hard work and positive intent, with lots of attacking opportunities and defensive master classes, with a special mention to Pip Stewart for her outstanding defensive work.
The girls go again against Holcombe next Saturday.
