Women’s 4s 1 - 0 Wimbledon 4s (A)
By Charlotte Stacey
The 4s returned for the first week back after Christmas to an icy pitch with most people arriving on time... and Freya S arriving in her own time. They had a great start to the day with Evie blocking the water fountain with Coke.
The game started and the 4s moved the ball quickly with lots of short passes starting the game well, if looking a little rusty after Christmas. Wimbledon had a high press putting lots of pressure on and forcing us down the lines, where both the Freyas and Elsa ran rings around the defenders, and Evie and Lara created great opportunities in midfield feeding the ball through to Tegan, Aash and Chandler who made great leads up front.
Lisa and Herbie worked tirelessly dictating play through the midfield and calmly stopping any stray balls that made their way through from Wimbledon's defence. Wimbledon managed to get a few solid short corners but great keeping from Eve meant they failed to convert, leaving the score 0-0 at half time.
We started the second half well with renewed spirit and we continued to press high with Chandler working hard against the wall of defence. Lisa scored the only goal of the game after continued attacks, managing to convert with some great teamwork in the D and a perfect pass across from Emily.
We managed to maintain the lead as the game continued despite Wimbledon making some strong counter attacks. In the last minute of the game, which felt like five, saw some great play from Charlotte G in defence - she had managed to remember the 3 Ds from before Christmas and delayed Wimbledon until the final whistle with a super calm bit of play out of the back that saw us maintain our lead to finish 1-0.
Overall we had a good start back after Christmas. The teamwork and energy made it a great game and we came away with a well deserved win!
POM - Lisa for a great game and goal
DOD - Stacey for forgetting her stick
