Men's 1s 5 - 2 Oxted 1s (H)
Surbiton Men’s 1s extended their 100% winning run with a 5-2 victory over Oxted on Sunday afternoon.
It took under two minutes for the Seals to get on the board at Sugden Road in game two of a double header weekend, with Will Calnan knocking the ball home on his reverse through a crowded circle. Oxted got themselves back on level terms in the 11th minute with a field goal from Charlie Axford.
Nick Bandurak failed to score for the first time this season in Saturday’s game at Hampstead, but rifled home an unstoppable forehand shot having rebounded his own penalty corner strike late in the first quarter. Surbiton looked to gain further advantage in the game but it was the away side who pegged another goal back, with Tim Guise-Brown flicking home from a corner to make it honours even at 2-2 going into half time.
Dave Goodfield deflected home from a Stu Rushmere penalty corner delivery to regain the lead for Surbiton in the 48th minute and the home side didn’t look back from there. Rushmere’s baseline drive set Bandurak up for his second from open play in the 50th minute and he completed his hat trick with five minutes left on the clock with a penalty corner flick.
Another six points this weekend and with results confirming that they will top the league at the conclusion of Phase 2, the Men’s 1 have what is bound to be a hotly contested fixture next Saturday under the lights, with local rivals Old Georgians travelling to Sugden Road for an 18:30 start.
