Women’s 2s 0 - 2 Holcombe 1s (A)
By Will Fulker
With two tough draws behind them, Guildford and Firebrands in the rear
Surbiton’s Women’s 2s set forth, their resolve crystal clear.
To Holcombe they journeyed, where the wind howled and roared
A 40mph tempest, and a crowd that never bored.
The pitch was a cauldron, the air thick with noise,
Holcombe’s home faithful, their cheers not for poise.
Surbiton stood steadfast, a young squad with heart,
Ready for battle, to play their brave part.
First quarter began, and the wind whipped the field,
But Lot Mander’s sharp deflection nearly broke the seal.
A stunning save from Holcombe’s keeper denied the first cheer,
But Surbiton pressed on, showing no sign of fear.
Holcombe, experienced and fresh from the Premier League’s test,
Found the net in the second, putting Surbiton’s resolve to rest
But only for a moment, for the mighty W2s,
Kept courage and pressure, refusing to lose.
The fourth quarter brought Holcombe’s second, the score now 2-0,
But Surbiton’s spirit? Unbroken, unbowed, and still.
They pressed and they harried, every ball hotly contested,
With courage and grit, their youth never bested.
Though the result went to Holcombe, Surbiton left proud,
Their effort and heart sang louder than the crowd.
Against seasoned opponents, in wind and in din,
The mighty SHC W2s showed true grit from within.
So raise up your voices for this valiant Surbiton crew,
For in courage and spirit, they always break through.
Onwards to the next, with heads held up high
The future is bright for these stars of the sky.
