By Bessie Tomlinson
On a spring like day down at Sugden Road, the team hit the ground running in today’s match, securing an early 1-0 lead that set the tone for the game with the set up from Jen. The opening minutes saw a wave of pressure from our side, culminating in a well-earned goal that showcased our sharp attacking intent.
Bessie made her mark early on with a daring aerial that caught the opposition off guard. However, in an unfortunate twist, her enthusiastic follow-through led to a less-than-graceful slip, earning her the DOD.
Lisa was an unstoppable force in midfield, her lightning-quick hands leaving defenders in her wake. One by one, the opposition found themselves on the floor as she weaved her way through challenges which lead to many goal opportunities when connecting with Emily running onto the ball, Cassie connecting the two sides of the pitch and Charlotte Stacey’s passing to create channels into the D.
At the back, Lexie stood tall, pulling off a series of crucial saves that kept our slender lead intact.
Maddy had the opposition fooled on many occasions with her super strength of deceptive passing sending the opposition spinning in circles wondering where the ball went.
Neve came close to extending our advantage on multiple occasions. Her sharp positioning and relentless drive saw her narrowly miss out on adding to the scoreline.
In defence, Sunny, was a rock, sweeping up every loose ball with impeccable timing and precision.
From start to finish, the team’s intensity was undeniable. Every player brought energy and focus, chasing down loose balls, making critical interceptions, and pressing high up the pitch.
While the scoreline remained tight, the spirit and determination displayed on the field were a testament to the team’s strength. with strong performances like this, there’s no doubt with two games to go, more wins will follow.
