Women's 4s 4 - 1 Wimbledon 3s (H)
By Maddie Wearne
The home crowd, that was almost as big as Emily’s forehead, roared and bellowed as second in the league called the 4s’ name. They came into their game as Team of the Week a little nervous despite their impressive history and, as it turned out, they had good reason to be.
An early break from Wimbledon earned them a quick goal, leaving the 4s momentarily stunned.
Was all hope lost?
Of course not. Enter the team’s hero: Herbie. She quickly found an equaliser, reigniting the team’s flame and reminding everyone exactly who they were. And because one wasn’t enough, she decided to grab another soon after, putting the 4s ahead and sending the supporters into a frenzy.
Then came Chandler, appearing out of nowhere like a flash of pink lightning. Suddenly the team had a penalty flick. The crowd held its breath, who would step up?
You already know the answer. The one. The only. (Insert dramatic drum roll here…) Herbie. It looked effortless as she sent the ball flying into the goal, sealing her hat trick, for as Aristotle once said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”
The game pressed on relentlessly with several near misses. Hat trick Herbie’s lack of height proved to be her downfall as she tried and failed for a fourth goal. But salvation came in the form of Aashny, who sealed the deal with style. The ball was cut clinically past the committed keeper.
As the minutes ticked away, the 4s dug in deep, with Becca moving the ball beautifully in midfield, Sunny making a goal line save and Evie proving that she can throw a successful aerial. Wimbledon pressed hard, desperate to close the gap, but luckily 80% of the defence managed to stand firm and when the final whistle blew, victory was ours.
With spirits high and a few sore bum cheeks, the 4s marched off the pitch ready to celebrate in an actual clubhouse.
