Women’s 2s 2 - 2 Guildford 1s (A)

The first league game of the season saw Surbiton W2s take on Guildford W1s in what turned out to be a thrilling encounter. The match began at a fast pace with both sides working hard, but it was Guildford who struck first, scoring a field goal in the 20th minute. Despite strong defensive work and good spells of possession, we went into half time trailing 1-0 with another Guildford goal after the break coming in the 44th minute.

Not disheartened, we kept fighting, building momentum and putting together some excellent attacking play. The energy from the midfield and forwards began to open up space, and by the final quarter the pressure was firmly on Guildford.

The breakthrough came in the 65th minute when we won a short corner. Sophie injected cleanly to Katie, who trapped the ball before slipping it right to Tilly. With composure and accuracy, Tilly slapped it into the bottom left corner to make it 2-1, belief surged through the team and the positivity was stronger than ever. 

Just minutes later, another short corner gave us the chance to equalise. This time Lot managed to deflect it in making it 2-2 with only a few minutes left to play. The 2s pressed hard for a winner, piling on the pressure in the last few moments, but Guildford held firm and the match finished all square.

It was a good comeback from us, showing determination, resilience, and true team spirit. Joint Player of the Match was awarded to Sophie and Isy for their relentless energy and skill throughout the game. Well done!
