Women’s 2s 1 - 4 University of Exeter 1s (H)
By Lilie Lamacraft
At Sugden Road the sun did gleam,
A feisty start - a fired-up team.
The Women’s 2s, with points to gain,
Prepared to battle, heart and brain.
From the back came slaps so sly,
Rowena Hearne - oh my, oh my!
A fifty-metre disguise so neat,
Sent Exeter dancing on their feet.
Issy Melbourne, cool and keen,
Her National League debut scene -
Brilliant saves to keep us strong,
As Exeter’s press rolled on and on.
But soon the tide began to turn,
Three short corners made us burn.
Another slipped - the score was four,
Before our 2s could start to soar.
Then came a spark, a flash, a flame,
Izzy Yonge - remember the name!
A close shot in open play, so sweet,
A moment none could quite defeat.
At the back stood Swanson, fierce and bright,
Our Scottish rock, our tartan might.
With tireless graft and skill sublime,
She bossed the D, time after time.
But oh, our skipper met her fate,
A tumble sealed her DOD slate.
A doughnut move, we’ll not reveal -
(Though others’ crimes we may conceal!)
So onwards now, we raise our cheer,
To Southgate next - the test is near.
With grit, with laughs, with team so true,
The 2s will rise - as 2s will do.
